Habitat Restoration
Habitat restoration has been one of the driving forces behind the work of The Green Center since its founding. Our Restoration and Volunteer Manager works closely with our volunteer corps at our managed sites: Kaufman Park Woods, Ruth Park Woods, & the Urban Bird Corridor. In certain seasons, this intrepid group makes weekly trips to these spaces, working to help remove invasive plants such as Japanese honeysuckle and euonymus and planting and caring for native species like beebalm and butterfly weed.
Due to their hard work and the help of other local organizations, these areas are beginning to show signs of being more biodiverse - supporting not just various plants but also birds, mammals, butterflies, frogs, and so much more!
They are all also free and open for the public to explore 365 days a years! Each area features unpaved paths that visitors can follow to see what wildlife they're able to find.
