THE GREEN CENTER WINS INA BOON AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
PILOT VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Green Center will launch a pilot Green Jobs vocational training program for St. Louis City and County youth beginning this June. Participating youth ages 16-19 are engaging in hand-on restoration activities, as well as a communications learning lab, that will enable them to develop skills essential to a variety of environmental science professions. Program partners include the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) and Missouri Career Center.

The Blazing Star program will focus on building individual life and job skills, as well as a knowledge of restoration techniques. It will provide participants with an opportunity to showcase their own “prairie portfolio” at an event planned and hosted by them. Throughout the eight-week program, area professionals will present their knowledge and expertise to the Blazing Stars. For more information, email info@thegreencenter.org or call 314.725.8314 x 100. You can also follow the Blazing Stars on Twitter at www.twitter.com/BlazingStar1.

THE GREEN CENTER IN THE NEWS
Calvary Cemetery Prairie Restoration Project Featured in the April 8 Economist magazine!

The Green Center has partnered with the Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Botanical Garden, The Nature Conservancy, and the Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Cemeteries to preserve and restore the last known native tallgrass prairie remnant in St. Louis, located at Calvary Cemetery. As part of this collaborative, The Green Center has coordinated outreach efforts, volunteer planting and invasive species removal days, and hands-on education in the Calvary Prairie.

For more information about this exciting project, call

Welcome to The Green Center
We are located at 8025 Blackberry Avenue in University City, MO 63130.

For general information, call 314-725-8314.
The Green Center's headquarters house is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. Our outdoor spaces are open from dawn to dusk.

Founded in 1998, the Green Center is a natural oasis in the heart of the St. Louis metropolitan region. The center is headquartered in a residence built in 1932 and is located in Kaufman Park, University City, Missouri.
The heart of the Green Center is its outdoor spaces which include learning and demonstration gardens on the headquarters' grounds; a half-acre prairie within a short walk of the headquarters; a half-acre Missouri wetland; the 26-acre Ruth Park Woods; and an Arboretum in University City's Heman Park.
We encourage visitors to explore the Green Center's outdoor spaces on their own or take advantage of our classes, guided field trips, summer youth camps, scout badge programs, and service learning and volunteer opportunities. Artists find inspiration here for their photography, painting, and creative writing.
Bringing the outdoors in, The Green Center now provides nature-related art exhibits by talented local artists.
