| | Ahzad Bogosian | | | Works by nationally known landscape painter, Ahzad Bogosian, appear in the book The Artist and The American Landscape (1998, First Glance Publishing), and many corporate and private collections across the country. Currently represented by several galleries in the Midwest, Ahzad has exhibited in museums and galleries on both coasts. In addition to his art career, he has taught painting and drawing at Webster University for the last eight years. He was a co-founder of the IN/Form arts group, a not-for-profit organization that curated art exhibitions in the St. Louis area. In recent years, Ahzad has also organized and curated several exhibitions including Old/New at the A.D. Brown building in downtown St. Louis and a traveling museum show titled, Five Views of the Midwest. Ahzad joined The Green Center Board in 2007 to help spearhead its arts initiatives. | | | Mark Carr | | President | | | Mark Carr serves in communications and government affairs at AEP MEMCO LLC, a barge freight company in St Louis. Mark’s background is in education and communications. He is very active in the community, serving on the boards of The Green Center, Friends of the Illinois River, and the Business Marketing Association-St Louis. Together with a team of writers, designers, and illustrators, he developed the curriculum “RiverWorks Discovery: A Journey of Exploration and Imagination on America’s Waterways”. Mark and his family live in Edwardsville, IL, a suburb of St. Louis. | | | Matt Feier | | | Matt Feier joined the Board in 2006 to assist with the organization's programming and fundraising efforts. In addition, he is part of the work group established to develop a landscape management plan for the Center’s outdoor learning spaces, an effort undertaken in coordination with the City of University City. He holds an M.S. in Environmental Policy and Natural Resources Management from the University of Denver, and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Conservation and English from the University of New Hampshire. His current academic interests include learning how to better manage natural landscapes where they interface with urban and suburban developments. Matt spent eight years working for the U.S. Forest Service in both central Colorado and Alaska. While he will use any excuse to get outside and exercise, Matt is an avid cyclist and hiker who also enjoys paddling. | | | Kally Higgins | | | Living most of her life in a small town on the banks of the Current River, Kally Higgins has made St. Louis her part-time home since 1998. Long passionate about the natural environment and social justice issues, Kally has served on the boards of other local organizations, helping to establish Friends of Ozark Riverways, and 'Family to Family' through which she worked with Afghani refugee women. Currently, she works for Washington University School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. Kally has a deep connection with the Missouri Ozarks, and her goal as an environmentalist is to help bring an understanding between conservation groups and the people who live in the areas being protected. She joined The Green Center's Board in 2008 to help steward the organization's development of Camp Current River, a residential conservation-education center for youth located within the National Park Service at Ozark National Scenic Riverways. | | | Peg Kaltenthaler | | | Keith Kohler | | Vice President | | | Along with his two brothers, Keith Kohler owns and operates a third-generation family business called Kohler Print Group. Kohler Print Group includes a conventional printing operation, a book component company (Pinnacle Press), and a digital print marketing and fulfillment company (KPEX Digital) at which Keith holds the position of CEO. When he joined his family business in 1995, Keith diversified the company by creating a separate, award-winning multimedia firm (Kohler Interactive) and was named one of the Top 100 Multimedia Producers in America in 1998 and 1999. Prior to entering the printing industry, Keith was a professional video writer, director, and producer for Maritz Inc. Keith is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Southeast Missouri State University, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Electronic Journalism. His love for nature is most enjoyed while camping and canoeing in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Keith joined The Green Center board in 2006. | | | Irv Logan | | | Irv, who has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications, was one of the original founders of The Green Center, and has served multiple terms in several leadership positions on the Board, most recently as Vice President. He was a Community Specialist for the Missouri Department of Conservation from which he recently retired after a 22-year career of exemplary public service. Some of his many accomplishments include co-founding Gateway Greening and the Earthways Center for Resource Efficiency (both divisions of the Missouri Botanical Garden); the later attracts visitors from across the nation who are interested in studying the principles of sustainable development. Irv has also hosted a television program designed to educate our community about important conservation issues. He became involved with The Green Center when he set up an outdoor classroom in Ruth Park Woods for students in the U City School District. | | | Jim Moriarty | | Treasurer | | | Jim Moriarty is a CPA with experience in public accounting, executive management, and private consulting. He has a B.S./B.A. from Loyola University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He has held the positions of CEO, General Manager, CFO and Bureau Chief; directly managed finance and IT staffs of 180 people; directed the development and implementation of ERP systems; and been involved with several continuous improvement initiatives, including the Toyota Production System, Lean Enterprise, Balanced Scorecards and Gainsharing programs. He was the lead national instructor for KPMG Peat Marwick’s regulated industry finance and accounting course, and taught the use of IT audit tools for Deloitte & Touche. His experience as an expert finance and accounting witness has included successful engagements in insurance litigation, oil pipelines, electric power, natural gas, water and wastewater, and telephone and broadband regulation and deregulation. Jim gives finance and accounting workshops as part of a Missouri manufacturing initiative, and consults with local organizations on continuous improvement, innovation and learning, cost management and stakeholder value. He is active in several renewable energy and early childhood development initiatives. Jim joined the board in 2005. | | | Jane Schaefer | | Secretary | | | Jane Schaefer grew up in Minnesota and moved to St Louis after college. She has followed her love of science, nature, and the outdoors throughout her life. She studied computer science and is the owner of Schaefer Software Services, a computer consulting and training company. In 1985 she was one of the founders of U City in Bloom, a volunteer organization which plants and maintains hundreds of flowerbeds throughout University City. She is one of the founders of The Green Center and is a board member. Her responsibilities include management of the Green Center Learning Gardens, including a prairie garden, a woodland garden, an endemic Ozark garden, and an herb garden. Her passion for native plants has led to her study of ecology and botany. | | | Ted Slap | | | Ted Slap is a volunteer outings leader and wilderness skills instructor for the Sierra Club, and has served as Treasurer of their Wilderness Training Committee. In 2008, Ted was appointed by Mayor John Nations to serve a two year term on the Chesterfield Missouri, Citizens Committee for the Environment. He relocated to St Louis from Los Angeles in 2007 to become the Director of Financial Analysis & Reporting for Viasystems Inc., a global electronics manufacturer headquartered in Clayton, MO. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Management and Accounting from Tulane University. In Los Angeles, he served on the Board or other committees of several not-for-profit organizations, including MOCA Contemporaries, the young professional support council of The Museum of Contemporary Art; and Eagle Rock Athletic Association, where he was Treasurer. Ted began his professional career in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, working in their Philadelphia, Boston and Moscow, Russia offices. In Los Angeles, Ted was a television finance executive, and worked for Dick Clark Productions in corporate accounting and production finance; and later as Vice President, Finance of the Tennis Channel. Ted is active with several local hiking and outdoors clubs, and is a member of the Ozark Trail Association. | | | John Solodar | | | John joined the board in early 2006 after having done volunteer work at The Green Center for many years. He has been involved in the effort to restore habitat in Ruth Park Woods by controlling invasive bush honeysuckle. In his role as Facilities Committee Chair, John also does minor building repairs at the Center. Other local activities include terms on the University City Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment, as well as short service on the University Bond Committee of 1993, the Economic Development Advisory Group and the Cell Phone Task Force in 2005, and various advisory committees for the school board in the 1970s and 80s. John is also a member of the St. Louis Audubon Society board of directors, serving as the organization’s birding field trip coordinator. John received his B.A. from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Yale University, after which he did chemical research for Monsanto until 1997. | | | Daniel Talonn | | | Daniel Talonn, a retired biomedical engineer, has been active in the environmental community for many years. A member of the Sierra Club since 1987, he has taken a lead role in many ecological restoration projects, including glade stabilization in state parks, trail maintenance in the Pioneer Forest, and local reintroduction of prairie species. Daniel is also an active member of U City in Bloom, focusing his efforts on honeysuckle removal from city parks. He joined the board of The Green Center in 2004. | | | Dan Washburn | | | Dan serves as Treasury Operations Manager for SSM Health Care in St. Louis. He joined the Board in 2008 to lend his expertise in finance and business management to our operations, and a hand to our restoration efforts. He has been active in several organizations, including the Optimist Club, United Way, and the Chamber of Commerce. Dan is a native Iowan and moved to the greater St. Louis area in 2007. He has an MBA and a BBA in Finance, both from The University of Iowa. Dan has a passion for the beauty of the natural environment, as well as its conservation, and believes the outdoors provides learning opportunities for people of all ages. Dan is also an avid bicyclist and has hiked many parks, including Rocky Mountain National Park and the Grand Teton National Park. | | | |
