About Us Our Mission Our History Board of Directors Staff Independent Instructors Volunteer Leaders Employment Opportunities	About Us The Green Center is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1998 for the primary purpose of providing a natural laboratory and cultural gathering place for members of the St. Louis community and surrounding region. Believing that the best organizations unite members of the community in collaborative, cooperative efforts, our volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of St. Louis area leaders, governs The Green Center. The Board sets the policy of the Center, which is implemented by four staff people staff members. Each Year We Have Expanded Our Programs For the first time in 2004, we offered an Arts & Nature Summer Camp that was open to the public In the summer of 2007, we will expand further to include a collaboration with the Craft Alliance to host a two-week camp. The Green Center will also run an arts and science integrated camp called SASE, Science & Arts Summer Experience, for youth agencies and school groups. We emphasize the arts by hosting nature-related art exhibits which are open to the public throughout the year at our headquarters' building. Our new programs are provided in conjunction with our ongoing efforts to restore native Missouri habitat. Our Prairie, Wetland and Ruth Park Woods are thriving ecosystems that provide much needed habitat for indigenous and migrating species and outdoor classrooms where children and adults can explore the Missouri landscape as it existed prior to westward expansion. We are increasing our efforts to propagate native Missouri plants for re-introduction into our Prairie, Wetland and Woods. To support our propagation and restoration efforts, we are currently planning for the installation of a greenhouse at our headquarters' building. When completed, the greenhouse will provide a year-round growing environment and all-season laboratory for horticultural studies. Most of Our Efforts Could Not Be Implemented Without Our Volunteers Over 50% of our programs are managed by our volunteers. Their efforts and dedication make our existence possible!
